If I asked you what is the most renowned professionals in the world? What will your answer be? Then, if I asked you what the most revered professionals in the entire universe are? Will your answer change now?
There is a difference between being famous and being honored. Even drug lords like Pablo Escobar are well-known all over the world, but are they respected or feared? The answer to that is visible enough.
Garnering fame is not at all difficult; there are millions of people all over the world who have a reputation. However, how many of them are adulated at the same time is the thing of importance.
You may say that the most famous line of work is singing, and it may even be, however, it is not the most esteemed. The answer to this will probably be the same for all of us. A doctor, a physician, a surgeon, or a medical practitioner; whatever the name you may refer to him as he is the person who has the highest degree of reverence from his patients, their families, and even the people he has never treated.
IS A DOCTOR EQUIVALENT TO A GOD?
Medicine is one profession that single-handedly works to uplift the health standards of the world. Perhaps that is why people all over the world consider their physicians to be the angels that God sent to earth in his place. This might be a little too much reverence, but if you take into account what medicine and its practitioner can do, this description would seem just about fair.
- For every human, the thing of utmost importance is his life, and a doctor works every day to save it.
- From road accident victims to abuse patients, from detecting unknown diseases to curing innate disabilities, a doctor can do it all.
- Psychiatrists help to recover a patient from his mental trauma, and surgeons help to do the same in the physical body.
- With the advancements in this field, the life expectancy of people all over the world is touching over 70. In the past centuries, people did not live that long, but now reaching 100 years of age is not uncommon.
I do not think there is a need for more explanations to accentuate the significance of a physician. Regardless, I would give you another fact; on average, there is about one medical school per 3.3 million people in the world. So, getting into one is quite complicated and costly. Still, some people are willing to take bad credit student loans to pay the £30,000 fee per year only because of the prominence this profession has garnered.
THE ACCOLADES OF A DOCTOR
Being a doctor makes you an essential and integral part of society so that it would provide innumerable advantages for the doctor himself.
SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
When a doctor finishes his day at work, he can proudly say that today he saved a life or more than five. He made it possible for a person to live longer than he could have without him. I think that is accomplishment enough. However, there are doctors all over the world who perform pro bono surgeries for the people who need it but don’t have the funds or insurance.
A surgeon can perform a 14-hour surgery by standing on his feet the whole time and keeping a clear head and attention on his performance and that of the patient. Such a feat is not possible for ordinary folk like us. That is why doctors are paid much more than we earn. Because they deserve every penny they get, no one would have any objection to this.
THE EPITOME OF HEALTH
A doctor is responsible for making other people healthy. He can only do that if he is healthy himself. You only preach what you practice. So, you will never find a doctor who is not healthy, who is fat-bellied and overweight, who cannot climb up 5 floors without his losing his breath. They set the standards for health, and we follow them.
THE ENIGMA OF BEING A DOCTOR
Doctors are praised and adored all over the world. We think that once you have become a physician, there is nothing that you cannot do and nothing that will ever bring you harm. But that is not the case; a doctor’s profession is filled with more hardships than we can ever know.
The first one starts before the person even becomes a doctor. Medicine is costly to study. The six years at medical school can easily cost a quarter of a million pounds, and that is just the tuition fee, not the living expenses. For all medicine aspirants, the direct lenders of the UK are like their best pals.
A doctors minimum hours at work range from sixty to eighty in a week. So, it would suffice to say that they are married to their work. There is nothing wrong in that, but it does become an impediment for the family man. Doctors miss out many of the critical events in their families because they have to perform their work, and saving lives cannot be neglected.
Surgeons encounter many patients in their lifetime. They save uncountable lives, but they also lose their patients on the operating table. And calling the time of death on a 7-month pregnant car crash patient can take a toll on you. Every life that a doctor loses, it chips a piece of his heart, and he is never the same.
In the end, I want to tell you why I decided to write about doctors. Amid the most significant battle, our generation is facing against the brutal COVID-19. It is the doctors and medical staff who are working without taking leave. They are working without fear of their life and helping the rest of us overcome the battle against coronavirus. This is a token of appreciation from me to all the unsung heroes in this battle.
